write it
As ridiculous as that may sound, it's very true. Cheza is a perfected Flower Maiden -- a Lunar Flower artificially made human by genetic engineering. Her story is something right out of a fairytale. To put it short: She is the fabled Lunar Flower prophesied to guide wolves to Paradise, and she was made human by Nobles who wanted to reach this Paradise themselves. As an artificial human, there are many qualities to her that might register as otherwordly. In truth, if one were to take the stereotypical characteristics frequently associated with flowers - elegance and peace, to give examples - and imagine them in a human being, Cheza is what you would get. On first meeting, many might find her a kind and sweet young girl, gentle in her tone of voice, never angering or expressing intention to hurt. Many might also find her a therapeutic presence, peaceful to be around. None of this is untrue. Cheza may not actually have a bad bone in her body.
Cheza is almost unfailingly compassionate. What she has is a genuine desire for everyone to be well, and if there is someone who needs help, she will do everything in her ability to give it. It's perhaps too convenient that her most useful power appears to be healing -- and it's a power she uses generously, on anyone in need. It goes without saying that she has healed her 'pack' several times during their journey, but what really illustrates the depth of her compassion is how she also helps the ones who have previously wronged her. Two examples illustrating this come to mind. Right after being captured by Darcia, who had taken her by force and injured the rest of her pack in the process, Cheza immediately moved to heal Harmona, the love of Darcia's life. There was absolutely no pragmatic reason for her to lend a hand. Darcia was never kind to her; he was more abusive, in fact, with how roughly he sometimes handled her, and how he never gave Cheza a choice over who she was to follow. Still, Cheza helped, because all she saw in Harmona was a poor soul in need of healing. Cheza also helped care for a delirious Quent, a wolf-hunter who was shooting at her and her pack only a few days ago. Even if there was no telling how Quent would have reacted to her and the wolves when he woke up, Cheza still stayed by him, giving him sips of water to keep him from dehydrating. Cheza will also do her best to help even if it meant overexerting herself. While shifting through the Forest of Death, where no sunlight could break through the canopy of branches above them, an exhausted Cheza - deprived of sunlight - went out of her way to heal Toboe, who had sprained his ankle.
As already illustrated, Cheza is not the kind to hold grudges. It would be more right to say that she actually has limited understanding of 'hate', or any of the negative emotions frequently harbored by humans like 'jealousy', 'greed' and 'anger'. All of these simply do not exist in her -- or, at least, she has never been shown feeling them. Put anyone else in the situation she went through - locked away in a suspended chamber and observed for several years, awakening only to find that all the other flowers she had regarded as 'family' have been destroyed - and they may have come out a little resentful. Cheza doesn't feel such resentment, however. She bears no ill will toward the scientists who studied her or the ones who had destroyed the other flowers (in response to that revelation, she only mourned). She doesn't quite have the ability to resent, and she definitely cannot process malicious intentions. There is only one lone instance where Cheza actually appears unsympathetic, and that was right at the very end. Right after Darcia had impaled her with his teeth, her blood - now revealed to be poisonous - started taking its effect, killing him slowly. This is the only time Cheza isn't shown to be deeply shaken by another's death -- she even spoke coldly, remarking to him that "You are not protected by flowers". It takes a lot to get Cheza to react to someone in this kind of uncharacteristic way, actually. You have to tear apart everything she cares about, which is essentially what Darcia had just done minutes prior with her entire pack. Still, my statement about Cheza having not a single bad bone in her body stands; though she was unsympathetic toward Darcia's plight, she was not the one who put him in that situation. Cheza truly isn't capable of hurting others intentionally, not even if they hurt her.
She is a calming, therapeutic presence. Cheza speaks in a soft manner, her tone always gentle and polite. The words she chooses are also aimed to soothe. She never shouts, blames or intentionally brings up anything that may conjure up bad memories in others. Instead, she may reassure a friend or ask them if they had a sweet dream. She is a patient soul, willing to accompany a weary friend as they sleep and wait with them until the rouse (just so they will not have to wake up alone). She is also generous with her caring, intimate touches, petting her wolves until they feel adequately relaxed. Truly, Cheza just wants everyone to be happy and at ease. Tense situations are something she dislikes, and when one arises - as is commonplace when you have two Alpha wolves like Kiba and Tsume constantly butting heads in the pack - she will do everything in her power to disarm it, even singing so that her friends are gently sent off into sweet slumber. Though she loves being with others, she won't force herself on them; especially if they are guarded or generally uncomfortable around her. In that situation, she's been seen respectfully keeping a mindful distance. She might also ask if they would like to keep her around, because she does not like the idea of imposing.
It might be because of her prolonged entrapment, but Cheza demonstrates a kind of delight at the world around her. A delight at being out and about, and travelling with the pack of wolves she's really come to love. Back in her chamber, she frequently looked distant, as if dreaming. It can be said that she really only comes to life when she's with the ones she cares about; otherwise, she almost appears to go into a kind of dormant state, not saying a word, not bothering to pick herself up after being knocked over. With her friends, she is happy; she finds her energy, and it's not uncommon to see her frolicking or twirling around the place (when she received a pair of shoes from Hige, she danced). The difference in her demeanor was commented on explicitly; Cher, one of the scientists who studied her for months, looked really surprised to see Cheza actually smile while with the wolves.
Her supernatural ability to sense is what enables her to navigate the world around her. Most may not even notice with the expert way she moves from place to place, but Cheza is blind. She gets around by touching, hearing and sensing the presences around her. She is particularly sensitive to the feelings of others, able to pick up on strong emotions from a great distance away. When somebody she knows is crying, a deep melancholy will overtake Cheza, and she will empathize with them, even going as far as crying too. When she meets someone she feels is lonely and confused, her compassionate nature will compel her to react to what she's picking up on, and she will go out of her way to reassure them.
Perhaps it's because she is the prophecized Lunar Flower, Cheza shares a natural, deep bond with wolves. She seems drawn to them on first sight, and will regard them as a 'friend' before she even manages to speak with them. This was the case with Blue, a half-wolf; Blue had not even known about her wolf side until Cheza had revealed it to her and gently reassured her (even if they had only just met). Cheza will also express deep sorrow when wolves are hurt around her. Wolf-blood is said to be very triggering for her; when in the presence of it, whether from watching her friends be injured or just being around it in general, she will let out an unearthly, piercing scream, and tears will stream down her face. It's possible that being an empath, she feels the anguish that the wolves are feeling when they are hurt. Cheza will also become melancholic when around animal-products. In response to receiving a jacket made of fur, she appeared sorrowful, most likely knowing immediately (despite having no knowledge of human clothing) that that coat had been cruelly skinned off a living being.
Out of all the wolves, Cheza has developed a strong connection with Kiba. It's a connection that had long been there -- before they had even formally met. Though her knowledge of Paradise and their fated path was scarce then, Cheza had always known of Kiba for some unexplained, very likely otherworldly reason. Upon finally meeting, she even expresses that she has been 'waiting' for him 'for a very long time', that she was 'born here for that very reason'. They are both characters fated to open Paradise - Kiba, the 'Chosen White Wolf' and Cheza, the flower destined to guide him - and it's very likely that she could sense this, that she knew that he was the one. In fact, their connection even seems to be telepathic in nature, with Cheza always seeming to know where Kiba is, what he's doing and how he's faring. Once finally together, they immediately became inseparable; walking together, hugging, holding hands -- it was like they had always known each other, even if they had just met. The walls that people frequently put around themselves when with strangers simply were not there. She seems to have a desire to always be with him, calling out to him with longing when they're apart, and telling Kiba to 'find this one' when they reach the next world. She also feels a great thankfulness toward him for protecting her so often.
Though physically weak, Cheza tries her best. While well-aware of her physical limitations - her weak body and inability to defend herself against attacks - she has expressed a desire to be useful, and will attempt to put her other abilities to creative uses. Her role in the group appears to be not only that of a healer, but also that of a guide. Cheza has found unknown paths for the rest of her pack - paths they could not have found even with their keen animal senses - and guided them out of danger several times before. Also, despite how little she truly knows about the world, Cheza has a sharp head on her shoulders, able to think up practical solutions to their problems. For example, to save her friends, she once led a hoard of flesh-eating bugs right into a nest of venus flytraps. Her ability to communicate with other plants - who can be considered brethren to her - gives her a big advantage when it comes to gaining knowledge on her surroundings.
Cheza also dislikes making people worry for her, even if it happens quite often with how physically fragile is. Even if fatigued, she will walk on as if nothing is bothering her. Even if in pain and visibly withering, Cheza has never once complained, always assuring the ones around her that she is fine and that there is nothing to worry about (even if they can very clearly see that she isn't). There are several occasions where she has worked herself to the point of fainting. In short, she is a compassionate being who laments and mourns for others, but she has never been seen lamenting for herself. In fact, she appears to care more for the ones around her than that of herself, once offering herself up to Darcia in exchange for the lives of her pack.
Though she had little understanding of Paradise at first, Cheza gradually understood her purpose and later showed a determination to help her friends open it. This determination became something unwavering. Even after the excruciating pain of being crushed by Darcia's sharp teeth, it didn't falter, and she struggled to drag her battered body to where she was supposed to go. She may be the anthropomorphic personification of a delicate flower, but inside Cheza lies an inner strength. Despite all the tragedies they had encountered on their trip, despite the fact that her body itself was withering, she has never once given up.
THIRD PERSON
What has happened? She asks whichever ones can hear her, and the information feeds back almost immediately.
"There was a garden," Cheza speaks, talking to no one in particular. Finally sitting upright, she clutches the sheets. Her posture slouches, looking sorrowful, "It has fallen, and many have withered."
That is what the others are telling her, at least. The survivors from that fall. Cheza can see memories of a once flourishing garden, where the sun shone brightly over the flora and fauna. Though the other living beings frequently misunderstood those plants, they were happy being up there. It seems that the sun rarely shone over the rest of this world; it was daytime, but the sun's beams could not break through the clouds. She would like to bask up there, but now it looks like she cannot.
Cheza can already feel the heavy, depressing air around her. A mixture of terror and despair, seeping into her pores from every direction. Sorrow was everywhere; from the humans, the ones who were not quite human and --
"Kiba!" Immediately, the memory of him pulls her out of her distant, melancholic state of mine, forcing an alertness from her. Dreamy, half-lidded eyes open wider, and there's a visible life in them now. She even hops off the top bunk, landing gracefully on her toes. The last thing she remembers is blooming for him, scattering her seeds and returning to her true form so that Paradise may open for him. That was what the Tree of All Seeds had told her she must do for the prophecy to be realised. Does that mean that ... this is Paradise?
A part of her knows that everything is wrong. Even if she does not have any actual knowledge of what the world opening after the destruction of theirs would be like, Cheza can feel something inside her denying this one. There was something artificial about all this, but she also could not quite put her finger on it. The progression from the death of one world to the birth of the next was a natural thing, as devastating as it was to the inhabitants of the former. It was a life cycle. This world, Cheza knew, should not have been factored in.
She had to find Kiba.
FIRST PERSON
Though the scenery is hard to make out with how much rocking is going on, there's a quick glimpse of the billboard, before the walking seems to stop. Cheza is examining the words on the billboard.
Finally, a voice. It's a young girl. She sounds distant, as if daydreaming. ] It is called 'Haven', but it is not Paradise. This one knows.
[ She doesn't quite know how she knows, given the fact that Cheza doesn't actually know what Paradise looks like, but she just does. As she seems to know many things for unknown reasons. Then, the voice appears to take a drop, and now she sounds despondent. ]
There is sorrow ... [ She can feel it pouring into her from all around; a generalized feeling of dread. ]
ABILITIES
PHYSICAL BODY: Cheza is a flower, so she doesn't actually have any need to eat or sleep. To survive, all she appears to need is water and a little sunlight or moonlight to bask in. That is where she gets her energy from. Cheza is, also, physically weak. Even by the standards of normal human girl, she is remarkably fragile. She cannot fight, and actually spends most of the series being pushed around and needing rescuing. If it's any consolation, though, she has a very light body, so she will actually float to the ground if pushed off a high surface. No, seriously, she doesn't fall, she floats. Furthermore, for an unexplained reason, Cheza's blood is poisonous to anyone who ingests it, particularly if they are not 'protected by flowers' (perhaps meaning that they are not in her favour?)
SENSING: Cheza is blind. She actually navigates around by sensing the presences of other living things. This only seems to apply to living things, though. She can't actually know she's about to walk off a cliff unless she feels where the ground ends with her feet. She seems to know immediately when a new person enters the scene, particularly if there's something off about them. She's also particularly sensitive to the presence of wolves, knowing immediately that Blue was half-wolf even if Blue had not known herself. This sensing ability appears to span across great distances, as she could pinpoint Kiba's location from an aircraft above. She is also said to react to wolf blood, the spilling of Tsume and Kiba's blood several kilometers away being the triggering factor that finally awakened her.
EMPATHY: Cheza is not only able to sense presences, but she can also sense feelings. Not only did she know that Blue was half-wolf, but she could also sense that Blue was 'all alone', and offered her reassurance to her. She was also able to sense the grief of a fellow Hanabito several miles away, as that Hanabito resigned herself to death. Cheza is frequently affected by the feelings she senses in others, and it can even move her to tears.
COMMUNICATION WITH PLANTS: As Cheza is a plant, she is able to communicate with other plants. She can do this by touching them with her hand or through telepathy. With this ability, she is able to gain information on her surroundings or ask other plants to help her. While she can't actually command anything of them, they appear largely cooperative with her.
HEALING: As previously mentioned, Cheza has the ability to heal. To what extent she can heal appears uncertain, but she's probably able to heal injuries up to the severity of stab wounds. She does not appear to have the ability to help people regrow limbs or bring others back from the dead. She also does not seem to have the ability to heal herself (or perhaps simply chooses not to).
SINGING: Cheza's lullaby (which you can hear here) appears to have the ability to send others off into a peaceful slumber. Anyone who hears it will suddenly feel a calmness overcome them and start to drift off. Once asleep, they will have the most pleasant dream they've had in a while.
