THE CHARACTER

Character Name: Rohan Kishibe
Series: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Canon Point: End of Diamond if Unbreakable
Character Age: 20
Background: Here.

Personality: As a bit of background, Rohan is what you would call a self-made man. Blessed with artistic talent and an eye for crafting compelling storylines, he put his skills into drawing manga, eventually striking it big with a hit series and making celebrity status. They say rich people have nasty personalities. Rohan is a good example. All this fortune he has had gives him the license to be an arrogant jerk. Rohan knows that he's a talented individual, is constantly reminded of that fact when fans ask for autographs, and it's come to the point where his ego is so huge it can suffocate everyone else in the room.

Though, the brand of arrogance he has doesn't manifest itself in the form of condescending over others. No, Rohan is just incredibly self-centered, to the point where he's blind to the needs of everyone but himself. All of his actions to date have been self-motivated, whether it's invading someone's privacy for the sake of material or doing something that can actually be considered 'nice' for the sake of having the experience. In a sense, he's sort of living in his own world. He has stated that he does not care about what other people think or how they may be feeling, and this might be the reason he has taken on such a blunt and pretentious day-to-day attitude. Even when Rohan is at rest, sipping his tea at a cafe, he seems to carry a sort of refined, unapproachable aura to him, almost like he's turning up his nose upon the world. He can also be very candid with what he's thinking, whether it's insulting someone to their face or admitting that he cannot remember a person's name when they have talked before. Simply put, getting along with people and acting in a manner that agrees with society is far from his priority. And why should he care about that, when he's so rich he can live on his life in seclusion without ever having to really talk to anyone else?

Another aspect of his self-centeredness is his love for himself, likely to be stronger than his love for anyone else. Rohan knows he's successful, he will sometimes brag about it, and he will not allow anyone to shake up his positive self-view. Despite claiming to not care about wealth, he takes care of himself thoroughly, dressing to impress even when nobody's around to see him. He also follows his whims in true mangaka-fashion, blowing money on anything that catches his eye. Rohan also, in all honestly, is blind to his own flaws. Anyone who knows him might pick up immediately that he's a selfish, petty and unfriendly individual, but Rohan doesn't see himself that way. To give an example, when called 'selfish' right to his face, Rohan's first reaction was to laugh it off like it were an absurd joke. Simply put, he rejects the notion that he may be anything but a great individual, and telling him about his flaws is a pointless endeavor because he will not listen.

For a guy who just draws manga for a living, Rohan can be unnaturally intense -- almost to the point it can be intimidating. With a larger-than-life ego comes a larger-than-life sense of pride, after all, and he will not stand for anything that spits on his pride. When he gets the feeling he is being made a fool of, his anger boils, and he will do anything in his power to right how he feels he was wronged. This may include swearing vengeance, in true cartoon-villain fashion. What's interesting about Rohan is that with his ability, he can easily pick apart another person's scheme; it's literally as easy as reading the pages of a book. However, when he feels like there's some trickery going on, Rohan will refuse to use his overpowered Stand, choosing instead to rely on his own intelligence and ability. His pride is so important to him that he will actually punish himself if he's unable to figure something out, once so angry he couldn't figure out Josuke's trickery that he stabbed himself in the finger. This scene was later followed by a scene where Rohan allows his house to get burned down; he was just that hyper-focused on Josuke and figuring out the boy's methods, and nothing else was a priority anymore. All of these should be examples of how intense Rohan can get when he's angry about something, especially when he feels like his pride is being trampled on.

When it comes to morality, Rohan sits in the grey area. He doesn't have a sense of 'justice', or any urge to do what's right, and cannot quite see outside of his own needs and wants. The Rohan we first see in the series showcases this selfishness strongly with his willingness to tear out the pages of a boy's memory for the sake of his work. That Rohan is no longer seen, but if asked if that were a wrong thing to do, he likely still wouldn't think so. Whether Rohan does the right thing or wrong thing is more determined by the circumstances, and what ends up personally important to him. He can be called an 'ally' in the later part of the series because he plays an active role in the search for the serial killer, Kira, but Rohan really only participated to repay the debt he had to Reimi Sugimoto for saving his life (and also because it was interesting). The uglier side of him seems to rear its head again when, in his indignation, he demanded that Josuke cut off his finger if Rohan were to figure out how the former was cheating in their game of Cee-lo. All that for a simple game -- that's just not something a morally 'good' person would do.

Still, he does have the capability to care for others, even if he buries it under many layers of pettiness and selfishness. While he claims to hate Josuke, he somehow ends up saving the boy's life, all the while insulting him and berating him for not doing as he's told. He shows Reimi this same contradictory attitude, going on this huge charade about how ghosts like her should just hurry up and pass on, all the while masking that he would actually miss her after she leaves. It's probable that he's really not used to caring about anyone other than himself, and when that suddenly happens he doesn't want to show others that kind of weakness; he actually gets embarrassed. Rohan likes to look like the aloof and independent one, after all.

One of the most defining things about Rohan is his passion for his art. He lives, breathes and tastes art. His manga serialization might be the most important thing in his life, and he's constantly searching for fresh new experiences to use as material in his manga. Though he claims to not care about what others think of him, when it comes to his manga, he doesn't just churn out pages for the sake of it - he wants his public to read it. That's his main motivation for a lot of the things that he does. When he's not doing something to further his artful goals, Rohan has stated that he tends to get insecure and starts to assume that nobody will read his work. It seems to be a constant, neurotic climb for him -- hunting for new inspiration, putting it down in his work, and then having to hunt for more inspiration to prepare for his next issue.

Reality is the main source of inspiration, what he draws upon when he writes his work, and he's always looking to experience new things so that he can write about them. This means that Rohan possesses an insatiable curiosity, with his interests lying in everything from insects to horticulture. He's also willing to try anything once, no matter how difficult or eccentric it may seem; if it means he'll gain an experience, that's material he can use for later. This curiosity of his can manifest in the most unsettling ways, making him look like a complete freak to the other, more neurologically typical people around him. One iconic example would be the one time Rohan stabbed a spider with a blade and then proceeded to lick it to discover how it tastes. This zest to discover experiences can also prompt him to trample over the privacy of others with Heaven's Door, opening them up like a book so he can learn about what they've been through. While he's much less forceful about it now, Rohan would still do it, usually muttering some half-hearted apology as he follows his whims like always. If it isn't obvious enough, Rohan is incredibly driven in his work. He will go to any lengths to find inspiration for it, once going as far as bankrupting himself for the sake of following an interesting lead.

Powers/Abilities:
HEAVEN'S DOOR: Rohan has a Stand that he names 'Heaven's Door'. A Stand is basically a manifestation of a person's fighting spirit, and usually phases out of a person to protect them or do their bidding when summoned. The appearance, ability and strength of a Stand is dependent on the user's personality and will. Rohan's curiosity about the world and his willingness to manipulate others has produced a Stand with the ability to perform two main functions: Read and input commands.

When Heaven's Door touches a person, it transforms them into a 'book', allowing Rohan to peer at their contents inside. This is a good depiction of what the process looks like. Under the spell of his Stand, Rohan's victim becomes unable to move or fight back, sometimes even losing consciousness until he releases them. While he has a victim in this form, he's able to read through their pages, learning facts about them and the experiences they have had. The information he learns can only come from the victim's memories; he cannot read what his victim does not know. He's also able to write in his own commands, essentially performing a simple form of mind-control. To give an example, if he were to write 'I really want to eat chicken' into a person's page, that person will feel an inexplicable craving for chicken. Rohan is also able to steal a person's memories by tearing the book's pages out, and doing so won't harm his victim. He can use Heaven's Door on any being with sentience, living or dead. Heaven's Door also appears to have a short range and cannot exist more than a few meters from where Rohan is. Like every other Stand, damage taken by Heaven's Door will transfer back to Rohan.

MANGA ARTIST: Rohan is skilled at art. Since this is JJBA, his skills are exaggerated to hell and back, and he's somehow able to produce a fully-inked manga page in a matter of minutes. He's also able to draw or sign something just by throwing ink onto a paper.

Power Nerfs (if applicable): While Rohan's ability isn't game-breaking, it is incredibly invasive toward other characters. That's why I am nerfing it to the point where it will only work on characters I already have permission to use it on. On characters I don't have permission to use it on, Heaven's Door will glitch. Here's what will happen:

1) Heaven's Door will not respond at all, or ...
2) Rohan opens up the character like a book and the only things written on them are gibberish or stupid poetry. Essentially, he gets rickrolled. He is unable to write his commands into them because the commands disappear.

As a generalized nerf, he will only be able to turn characters into a book for 1 whole minute. After that, they will revert to normal. He's also unable to use Heaven's Door on the same person twice in an hour.

Inventory: His clothes, fancy pens and pencils, sketchbook and a camera.

Incentives: - The safety of his family and the ... maybe two (2) other friends he actually has.
- A nice house with a nicer work studio.
- Anime ... figurines??
- Permission to punch pod-Josuke in the face.
- A chance to see Reimi Sugimoto again.
